According to a survey we did, the number one problem our readers listed was procrastination. Number two was lack of focus.
Not only do I think these two items are related, but I also think they are results rather than simply problems. Trying to kick the “do-it-later” habit without understanding what lies beneath is a tough job. It will seem hard and you probably won’t make much progress.
Why do people procrastinate? Why do YOU procrastinate?
I think there are many reasons.
Sometimes we’re unclear as to what the next best logical step is.
Sometimes we’re fearful of making a mistake.
Many times we’re just not sold on why the task or project should be done. Our ‘why’ isn’t big enough.
And what we’re procrastinating about can often be a ‘should’. We don’t want to do it, but we feel we SHOULD do it. Not very motivating is it?
It’s important to, number one, realize when you are procrastinating. And then, look for why you may be doing so.
You can bull your way through, exert more discipline and get the job done, but that’s usually the harder way. If you can see clearly what’s stopping you, you can more often than not find an easier path.
