Registered Mail and a Six Figure Check

This article was originally published on SuccessNet.org in July of 2010.

I went to the post office a few days ago, and there was a notice in my box that I had a registered letter.

As I stood in line to sign for it, I wondered what it might be. Now I’m a positive and optimistic man, but I must admit that my expectations were not as positive as I would have liked.

I don’t know about you, but most times that I’ve received registered or certified mail, it has not been good news.

This was not one of those times. Because the letter they handed to me was from my publisher in Tokyo.

And in it was a 6-figure royalty check!

Now I must tell you that the “6 figures” was in Japanese Yen. But it was still a very nice check—even in US dollars.

You see, a little over a year ago, I got a generous advance from this company for publishing my book, 101 Best Ways to Be Your Best in Japanese. Since it was my first book advance and I had no idea if royalties would even exceed the advance, I didn’t give it much thought—until I got the registered letter and the “6-figure” check.

It looks like the book is selling better in Japan than it did here in the states. Not bad.

I tell you this so you can see that as you grow, and the longer you stay in business, things really do pay off. The more ships you send out, the more come back. And oftentimes in ways you never imagined.

What ships will you send out today?

By the way, 101 Best Ways to Be Your Best is available on Amazon.com in Kindle and paperback and it is still timely. See below.
