What’s YOUR Biggest Project?

How many projects do you have going at the moment? Are they supportive of your top goals? Are you clear on what your next steps are? And have you created support mechanisms to keep your projects moving forward to completion?

I hope you have a good handle on all your projects and that you have prioritized your goals and the projects that will achieve those goals.

At my stage in life, I find that I have fewer projects to manage than I used to, and I’m glad for that. My life is full. Busy, but not hectic. I’m focused on interesting projects, and I’m having fun with them.

Of the many, many projects I’ve had throughout my career, the biggest one is becoming the best me I can be. And that project continues.

One thing I know for sure is that if I want my world to get better, I have to get better. My best life requires my best self.

I’ve made progress for sure. But just as in acquiring knowledge, the more I discover, the more I uncover how much there is still to explore.

So I continue to challenge myself to improve in every area. And I will continue to do so as long as I live. I examine my roles and how I fulfill those roles. I review my day, week and month and reflect on what worked, what didn’t and what I can improve upon. I practice “correction without invalidation”.

I developed the Best Life Navigator www.BestLifeNavigator.com and use it every day to keep myself focused and to systematically improve my life and my world.

And as I shared with you earlier this year, I focus on one virtue each week to improve or acquire. See In Search of a Virtuous Life at www.SuccessNet.org/virtue It includes a list of Ben Franklin’s 13 Virtues and a much longer list of all the virtues I could think of at the time.

How about you? Is your biggest project building a better you? What are you doing to invest in yourself? What are your systems and disciplines for self-development and life-long learning?

I ran across this profound story some time ago and have been reminded of its wisdom every time I’ve read it:

When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.

Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.
