A Change of Course in the Book I’m Writing . . .
Sometimes we have to question long-held beliefs.
I’m about half way through the first draft of my next book—number 3 for the year. It was going to be on purpose and mission because I had always used purpose and mission interchangeably. The working title was Powerful Purposeful, Meaningful Mission.
But I was struggling a bit. Things weren’t flowing as smoothly as they usually do. And that usually means that I’m lacking clarity about my subject matter.
If you’ve been following me for awhile, you no doubt have heard me say, “Clarity leads to power.“ And one of the things that we have to keep in mind is to notice when we DON’T have clarity. Being clear requires that we’re willing to be Unclear in the process of getting there.
As I was writing about our purpose, I began to make some distinctions between purpose and mission that I hadn’t fully acknowledged before. I did a lot of thinking. I challenged all my precepts and beliefs about purpose, about being on-purpose and one’s personal mission.
And in the process, I came to believe they are not one and the same and that they should not be interchangeably used. This required me going back and changing my Best Life Pathway Pyramid in my two previous books. Which I have done. See below.
And it also means that I will write two separate books: one on purpose and another on mission. I’m sure it will be worth it. And I think you will agree.
