The Platinum Rule

What Do They Really Want?

Most religions of the world have something akin to The Golden Rule—”Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” It’s not a bad philosophy to live by.

But a few years ago, I was introduced to The PLATINUM Rule by Tony Allesandra: “Do unto others as THEY would have you do unto them.” It’s also excellent advice. And for those of us attempting to build better relationships, whether it be with loved ones or customers, it’s even better advice than the first rule.

The way WE might want to be treated—what WE might want—is not always what others want.

In order to truly know what people want, we have to ask them. And it’s a step that’s often missed—especially in marketing goods and services. And in more intimate relationships as well.

It’s incumbent upon us to learn how to ask—to elicit what people really want and then come up with ways to fulfill those wants and needs.

As we near our thirty-year anniversary, we re-dedicate ourselves to getting to know your needs and wants and finding new and innovative ways to serve you.

I truly believe that feedback is the breakfast of champions and that’s what helps me to live by the Platinum Rule.
