For the past few days, I’ve been doing a thorough organizing of our office. I’ve been purging, sorting, cleaning, filing and archiving over eight years of records and references. I’m not quite done yet, but it already looks great—and feels even better.
It wasn’t a terrible mess. But it was clearly time to do a full reorganization. Things had accumulated. Obsolete computers and printers needed to be recycled. Old records were crying for disposal. We’re not hoarders by any means, but we did have things that were no longer useful and it was taking away from our focus.
The truth is, you can’t live your best life amidst disorder. You can’t have clarity in the middle of clutter. Complexity, chaos and disorganization are the enemy of clarity and focus.
When I’m coaching someone with overwhelm issues, I often advise them to clean up, clear out and tidy up their environment. It’s the simplest and easiest way to simplify their life and business. Their ability to focus and concentrate increases dramatically. They gain a sense of power and control.
How about you? What needs cleaning up, organizing or purging in your life? What can you do today to simplify, organize, delegate or automate (SODA)?
And yes, you DO have time to do this. Your effectiveness, your clarity and your productivity will improve substantially. I promise.
