What I’ve been writing about and what SuccessNet has been about for almost 30 years is living your best life.
We all want that, right?
But choosing your best life, planning it and making it happen often take a back seat to simply letting life play out. Far too many people become only actors in their lives instead of AUTHORS and DIRECTORS—as well as actors.
Trying to live your best life may sometimes seem too overwhelming. But it needn’t be. If you follow even some of the strategies and principles I’ve shared with you over the last few decades, you will live closer to that objective and remain on the Path to Your Best Life.
Of course it can’t be accomplished in one fell swoop. It’s achieved by taking small steps on a consistent basis.
One of our Best Life Tips is, “If you want a better view, you have to become a better you.” And certainly being the best person you can become will help create the best life you can have.
I’ve long been committed to making myself a better me. Most likely you have, too.
After all, the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.
However, recently I made a commitment to taking at least one measurable action step in making something in my life and in the world better than it was before—and documenting it in my journal.
The result has been quite fulfilling. It feels good and it’s fun. They are most often small things. But the aggregate result is substantial.
It might be fixing something that’s been broken. It may be painting or polishing something. Identifying and eliminating a Toleration is always good. It might be improving a process, making a contribution, investing in a deeper relationship with someone, simplifying or clarifying something that was confusing. Anything that makes you, your environment and your life better counts.
Maintenance stuff doesn’t count. Washing clothes or dishes is not a Make Something Better (MSB) Task—unless it’s been an embarrassingly long time since you did. I think my almost-daily workouts make me better, but that’s routine and for my purposes doesn’t count.
Today, I went through my wardrobe and filled several boxes with clothes I don’t need or want to give to good will. I’m also writing this article that hopefully will inspire you and others to MSB every day.
I encourage you to make a game of it. In just a week or two of consecutive MSBs you will start to see yourself, your life and your environment improve—sometimes dramatically!.
If you give it a try, I’d love to hear from you about how it’s going.
