How I Reframed and Reclaimed One of Life’s Most Frustrating Experiences

We just returned from Lake Tahoe—mountains, family, and meaningful time together.

But like most trips, there was a fair amount of waiting.

Rental cars. Restaurant lines. Flight delays, Layovers. Even just getting from one place to another. And for someone who’s created a low-friction, low-wait lifestyle, all that downtime felt… wasteful.

Until I realized something.

Waiting doesn’t have to be wasted.

🔄 The Reframe that Changed Everything

Even though I’m fairly good at making good use of down time, at some point early in the trip, I asked myself: “What if I reclaimed ALL of this in-between time instead of resenting it?”

Not by numbing out. Not by doom-scrolling.
But by making it valuable, enjoyable, or even meaningful.

That question changed how I experienced the entire trip—and future trips.

✅ What I Did Differently

Here’s how I turned “dead time” into “prime time”:

  • Practiced gratitude—just a few breaths of awareness changed my state
  • Read for enjoyment, not just learning
  • Reviewed ideas and notes—cleared out and reconnected with good ones
  • Jotted reflections—captured insights I might’ve otherwise forgotten
  • Moved my body—walked, stretched, breathed between flights and meals

The best part? None of it felt forced.
It just felt… better.

  • Write or revisit affirmations
  • Reflect on what matters today
  • Review your journal or notes
  • Stretch or walk
  • Meditate/Pray
  • Ask: “What could I do now that supports my best life?”
