Do You Debrief the Events in Your Life?

Whether it be a business conference, a trip, an event, a challenging ordeal, a sales campaign or anything of any significance, it’s always good to evaluate what happened—and learn from the experience.

I recommend a very simple process. It’s called What Worked, What Didn’t and What’s Next. You can use it to review the day, the month, a quarter or the year. It also works great for business meetings, family meetings and mastermind meetings.

We recently travelled to Spain for almost two weeks and within a couple of days of returning, my wife and I did a debrief using the WW, WD, WN process. Like a military After Action Report, it allows us to learn more from the experience.

We talked about what we learned, what we thought were the highlights of the trip, what we might want to do again and what we would avoid in the future. And for the next time, how would we make it even better for ourselves and those we travel with.

We each did the same things on the trip, but it was interesting to see our different perspective. The debrief enriched an already rich experience.

It’s a great way to relive the trip while also gaining more clarity about what we want to do more of and what we want to do less of in the future.

Schedule a WW, WD, WN meeting (with yourself or others involved) after your next event—and make what’s great, even better.
