What Would Make Today a Great Day?

A successful year and a successful life is the result of an accumulation of successful DAYS. If you want to design, create and live your best life, you need to take consistent action and start stringing those productive days together.

Because success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally, it comes from what you do consistently.

One of the questions I’ve been starting my day with is: “What would make today a great day?” By asking myself the question it gets me started thinking about how I can create a great day instead of just waiting and hoping for one.

Many years ago, I wrote down what I considered to be a successful day.

“To learn something new; to laugh at least 10 times; to lift someone up; to make progress on a worthy goal; to practice peace and patience; to do something nice for yourself and another; to appreciate and be grateful for all one’s blessings.”

It’s not perfect or even complete, but I think it’s a good start. And I also want to go beyond that and make a successful day a GREAT day.

What would make this day great? What would be a breakthrough? What’s the best you can imagine? What would make it stand out as one of the best of the year?

The idea is to stand in the possibility of having an exceptional day. It makes sense to think about what those possibilities are, to have motivating intentions—and to think big.

Each evening, my wife and I review the day and share our “Gratefuls”. We reflect upon and give thanks for the blessings of the day. And many times, we’ll be only a little surprised at how close our experience is with what we had envisioned. Many times it’s even better.

Does it work 100 percent of the time? No, of course not. Some days are less than great, for sure. But it’s a lot better to create our day than be at the effect of our day.

Set your intentions. Affirm what you desire. And I always like to add, “This or something better.” You never want to limit the Universe.

Remember, it’s your day and your life. You are the architect of your best life.
