We do not take action to gain or prove we are valuable, we take action to gain results and discover more of who we already are. Everything I do, I do to make my heart sing. What kind of a world would this world be if everyone in it was just like me? The opposite of fear is love. There is no security in life, only opportunity. There are two ways to shine . . . You can be the candle or, the mirror that reflects it. No man is free who cannot command himself. Habit is either the best of servants or the worst of masters. Have faith in the force of right and not in the right of force. The horizon is not the world's boundary. By trials God is shaping us for higher things. We are always in the forge or on the anvil. Who has deceived you so much as yourself? If you were to list the ten smartest people in the world, who would be the other nine? We may be taught by every person we meet. The key to problems is usually the ignition key. The first step in making a dream come true is to wake up! Wealth is a means to an end . . . not the end itself. Sow an act
and you reap a habit. We first make our habits, and then our habits make us. Habits are at first cobwebs . . . then steel cables. One who does nothing but wait for his ship to come has already missed the boat. The clock
of time is wound but once, To listen well is as to talk well and is as essential to all true conversation. Today's profits are yesterday's good will ripened. Happiness or unhappiness depends more on the way we meet events than on the nature of those events themselves. We cannot be happy unless we think we are the means of good to others. There are no riches above a sound body. Some pleasures are more trouble than trouble. It is good to let a little sunshine out as well as in. There are no bad days; some are just better than others. Don't spend your time stringing and tuning your instrument. Start making music now! If I am at war with myself, I can bring little peace to others. Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet. The aim of education is to teach us how to think, not what to think. A college graduate is a person who had a chance to get an education. Stages of a Project . . . Borrowing trouble from the future does not deplete the supply. Never despair, but if you do, work on in despair. It is by those who have suffered that the world is most advanced. An obstinate person does not hold opinions, they hold him. A purpose is the eternal condition for success. That which is painful to the body may be profitable to the soul. Speakers have been showering us with pearls of wisdom for centuries and if their valuable advice were laid end to end it would still be as good as new. Very little of it has ever been used. No one agrees with the opinion of others. He merely agrees with his own opinions expressed by someone else. What we need is not new light, but new sight; not new paths, but new strength to walk in the old ones; not new duties, but new strength from on High to fulfill those that are plain before us. No one has a good enough memory to make a successful liar. The best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice you give to others. Practice an attitude of gratitude. Be the labor great or small . . . Do it well or not at all! If the cake is bad, what good is the frosting? The virtue lies in the struggle, not in the prize. The greatest truths are the simplest; and so are the greatest men. Sign in a workaholic's office: Thank Goodness it's Monday! A students usually work for the C students. One of the most irresponsible things you can do is to take on someone else's responsibility. And so in the strife at the battle of life, It's easy to fight when you're winning, It's easy to slave and starve and be brave when the dawn of success is beginning. But the man who can meet despair and defeat with a cheer, there's the man of God's choosing, the man who can fight to heaven's own height, is the man who can fight when he's losing. Let me be broke or let me be wealthy but never let me accept mediocrity. You don't send a duck to eagle school. Spectacular accomplishment is always preceded by less than spectacular preparation. A leader is a person who gets someone to do something they otherwise would not have done. A short pencil is usually better than a long memory any day. No one ever built a statue to a critic. If you do not run your subconscious mind yourself, someone else will. If you do not have a plan for your life, someone else will. One's ships come in over a calm sea. No man is your enemy, no man is your friend. Every man is your teacher. Things don't just happen; they happen just. To be afraid is to have more faith in evil than in God. Most people go through life not knowing what they want to do but being certain that what they're doing isn't it. The measure of time to your next goal is the measure of your discipline. God, help me to make my words this day tender and tasty for I may have to eat them. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. or, Most people don't plan to fail—they fail to plan. It doesn't take guts to quit. Never be less than your dreams. Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is certain. Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. The Universe tends to treat you pretty much like you treat yourself. Force equals too much; effort equals too little; being equals enough. Out of confusion comes new patterns. I seek not so much to find the answer as much as to understand the question better. What I am is God's gift to me. What I make of myself is my gift to God. The ultimate goal of life is death—the experience of life is where the value is, not the results we achieve. You become blank when you let others do your thinking for you. What's behind the door I do not know, But this I know and know it well: The more I open the more I sell. The person who learns to laugh at himself will never cease to be amused. Winning starts with beginning.

He is no better who can read and does not than one who simply cannot. Leaders are readers. Sorrow, like rain, makes both roses and mud. If at first you do succeed . . . try something harder. The bravest battle that was ever fought; Shall I tell you where and when? On the maps of the world you will find it not; It was fought by the mothers of men. Judge nothing before its time. The man who rows the boat doesn't have time to rock it. Toil awhile, endure awhile, believe always—and never turn back. To belittle is to be little. A rolling stone gathers no moss . . . but it obtains a certain polish! Hard work is the accumulation of easy things you didn't do when you should have. Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it. Autograph your work with excellence. Time flies. Suns rise and shadows fall. Let time go by. Love is forever over all. Genius is eternal patience Good writing is easy. All you do is sit at a keyboard and open a vein. Those who plan the battle don't battle the plan. Courage is doing what you are afraid to do. You don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate. When you've got them by the balls their hearts and minds will follow. Truth, beauty, and contact lenses are in the eye of the beholder. To think is easy; to act is difficult. To act as one thinks is the most difficult of all. Make your life an exclamation, not an explanation. Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty. When we follow the vision within our heart we experience our oneness with all that we see and feel. Letting go of fear is personal disarmament. You'll never find peace of mind as long as you are giving the world a peace of your mind. A feeling is an idea with roots. When you stop learning you start dying. If you can describe a thing you don't understand it. ancient saying Fear knocked at the door. Faith answered. No one was there. Life's a mountain not a beach. On writing—A blank sheet of paper is God's way of letting you know what it feels like to play God. Life is a sexually transmitted terminal illness. Outward actions are a reflection of our inner thoughts. May my faith always exceed my fears—no price is too great to go through life afraid. It's a thin line between the child you were and the adult you have become. Don't repay a kindness, pass it on. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. No one can predict what heights you can soar. Even you will not know until you spread your wings. Do not fear the winds of adversity. Remember: A kite rises against the wind rather than with it. In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity. If you're not playing a big enough game, you'll screw up the game you're playing just to give yourself something to do. I know a man who gave up drinking, sex and rich food. He was healthy right up until the time he killed himself. Those awaiting the future be advised. A little arrives every day. The efficient person gets the job done right. The effective person gets the right job done. The one who marries for money earns it. I used to live for sex, now I'd die for some. Nothing, multiplied by five billion, is still nothing. Time is the thing that keeps everything from happening all at once. Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just sits. If you follow the herd, you'll end up stepping in shit. It's the space between the notes that creates the music. The mystic is someone who sees what others do not see. If I bring forth what is inside me, what I bring forth will save me. If I fail to bring forth what is inside me, what I bring forth will destroy me. The worst thing about having nothing to do is that you don't know when you're finished. This is the winter of my discontent. Guilt: The difference between who you think you should be and who you really are. A wise man generally consists of one pound of learning to one pound of common sense. An obstacle is something you see when you take your eye off the goal. Education will never be as expensive as ignorance. Some may succeed because they are destined to, but most because they are determined to. One must carve one's life out of the wood one has. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference. ( abbreviated version: "screw it") Doing little things well is a step towards doing big things better. Wisdom is divided into two parts: Having a great deal to say, and not saying it. Worry is an old man with bended head carrying a load of feathers which he thinks is lead. A man can fail many times, but he isn't a failure until he gives up. All things come to him who goes after them. Of all our human resources, the most precious is the desire to improve. The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. What would we pay to watch the moon rise if nature in all its providence had not provided it for free. If someone calls you a horse you can ignore it. If two people call you a horse, you might want to consider it. If three people call you a horse, you had better buy a saddle. Success is getting up just one more time than you fall down. Wisdom comes more from living than from studying. Speak softly and sweetly. If your words are soft and sweet, they won't be as hard to swallow when you have to eat them. Why is it that when a person speaks to God it's prayer, but when God speaks to a person it's schizophrenia. It's not only important to add years to your life, but to add life to your years. The river of life runs between the banks of pleasure and pain. The greatest fertilizer on the farm is the farmer's footprints. Instead of giving someone a piece of your mind, give someone the peace of your mind. A kind word will keep someone warm for years. Some people dream of worthy accomplishments while others stay awake and do them. Attitude is a little thing that makes a BIG difference. The speed of the leader determines the rate of the pack. You cannot discover new oceans unless you are willing to lose sight of the shore. Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishment toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people attain uncommon results. The man on the top of the mountain did not fall there. Leaders are like eagles, they don't flock . . . you find them one at a time. We cannot direct the wind but we can adjust the sails. It takes months to find a customer . . . seconds to lose one. To lead a symphony, you must occasionally turn your back on the crowd. Rule #1: If we don't take care of the customer someone else will. Customer complaints are the schoolbooks from which we learn. Commitment is what turns a promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions. And the actions that speak louder than words. It is making the time when there is none. Coming through time after time after time, year after year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism. Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment. You can marry more money in five minutes than you can earn in a lifetime. In this world of give and take, there are few who are willing to give what it takes. You've never lived until you've almost died. You can be right or you can be rich. Teamwork makes the dream work. You're either growing or rotting away. When you don't care who gets the credit, there's no limit to how high you can climb. Failure is a dress rehearsal for success. You can see through people or, you can see people through. Some pursue happiness. Some create it. He who hesitates is lunch. Character grows in the soil of experience with the fertilization of example, the moisture of ambition, and the sunshine of satisfaction. Character cannot be purchased, bargained for, inherited, rented or imported from afar. It must be home-grown. He that cannot ask cannot give. To do nothing is to be nothing. Nothing makes a person more productive than the last minute. Quality isn't expensive. It's priceless. Success walks hand in hand with failure. I always see better with my heart. Some people are vibrant—they are the kind of people who wear their clothes out from the inside. In order to win, you have to finish. In order to stand in the light you must endure the burning A politician is someone who thinks as far ahead as the next election. A statesman thinks through the next generation. It's no wonder that everyone frowns at enthusiasm in the world when the ultimate compliment is to be cool. This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
There are three kinds of people in this
world: When you're arguing with a fool, make sure he isn't doing the same thing. The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing. Information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom, wisdom is not truth, truth is not beauty, beauty is not love. Bureaucracy is a challenge to be conquered with a righteous attitude, a tolerance for stupidity, and a bulldozer when necessary. Every day I get up and look through the Forbes list of the richest people in America. If I'm not there, I go to work. Its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog. Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored. Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield. Some days you're the dog, some days you're the hydrant! Better to understand little than to misunderstand a lot. 76.4% of all statistics are meaningless. Time is nature's way of keeping everything from happening all at once. The glass is neither half empty nor half full. It's twice as large as it needs to be. When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did—in his sleep. Not yelling and screaming—like those passengers in his car.
Strategic planning is when you can't see the
forest or the trees. You can have two things in life: reasons and results. And reasons don't count. I am free to invent my life. A hundred years from now, it will not matter what sort of house I lived in. But the world may be better because I was important in the life of a child. Life itself cannot give you joy unless you really will it. Life just gives you time and space—it's up to you to fill it. What the future has in store for you depends largely upon what you place in store for the future. To laugh is to risk appearing the fool. To weep is to risk being called sentimental. To reach out to another is to risk involvement. To expose feelings is to risk showing your true self. To place your ideas and your dreams before a crowd is to risk being called naive. To love is to risk not being loved in return. To live is to risk dying. To hope is to risk despair, and to try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken, because the greatest risk in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn and feel and change and grow and love and live. Chained by things that are certain, he is a slave. He has forfeited his freedom. Only the person who risks is truly free.
