How Are You Dealing with the New Normal?

We live in a constant state of change. Many people are calling it The New Normal because it's now become normal for things to no longer be normal.

Some changes are significant and some aren't. Some changes are obvious and some are inconspicuous—at least at first. Whether it's in our business and career or in our family and home, we need to understand and anticipate—as best we can—what change will mean for us.

Top Ten Things to Think About If You Want to Change the World.

Mahatma Gandhi believed that we must be the change we want to see in the world. This was well demonstrated when he helped India gain its independence. Gandhi was a revolutionary man, but he accomplished India’s emergence as a nation without starting a revolution. In fact, he advocated no violence. One of the most powerful countries in the world yielded to the commitment of one man and the dream of millions.

What change can we effect? What’s the difference we want to make in the world?

Do You Have a Big Enough Why?

Once you get clear on WHAT you want to achieve, it's crucial to know WHY you want it.

See What Do You Really, Really Want? Click Here.

If you have an important goal, it needs a big why. Otherwise, you won't have the determination and resolve to overcome the inevitable challenges you'll encounter in the process of achieving it.

Most people are too focused on the how and they miss the all important why.

When it comes to investing our precious time and energy into a worthy objective it makes a huge difference if our why is strong. If we have enough benefits—enough REASONS for the goal—we substantially increase our chances for success.

What Do You Really Really Want?

Goal Planner Do you know what you want? Are you sure?

Mark Twain said it over a hundred years ago: “I can teach anybody how to get what they want out of life. The problem is I can't find anybody who can tell me what they want.”

And it's as true today as it was in the 1800s.

Most of the people I talk with do NOT know. They might think they know, but most don't.

I've been doing an informal survey recently and less than 10% can tell me clearly what they want to achieve. Less than TEN PERCENT! And this is from asking some pretty knowledgeable and sophisticated people.

Do You Know Where You Are Now? Are You Sure?
Let's say you're on your way to my home. You rent a car at the airport, but misplace your directions. So you call me to ask how to get to my house. What's the first question I will ask you?

Of course, I would ask, "Where are you?"

Without knowing where you are, it's futile to try and give you help on navigating your way to me.

Unless we know where we are, we cannot adequately figure out how to get where we're going.

Hardly anyone would argue with that logic. And yet,

Will More Information Make You Successful?

icon_book My personal vision is to profoundly impact over a million people before my time on planet Earth is up.

There's a lot left to be done.

I love writing and sharing ideas with my readers around the world. I know it makes a difference because every week, dozens of you tell me so.

But, even though the ideas we share are good, the principles sound and the resources helpful, it only adds to your knowledge. And knowledge isn't power.

The USE of knowledge is power.

New Video - Life As a House

icon_videoA few years ago, Kevin Kline starred in a movie called 'Life as House'. It's a heartwarming story of a downsized, divorced man (Kline) who finds out he's terminally ill. He decides to spend the last months of his life building a beautiful house with his son as a lasting gift to him.

The house itself turns out to be the least of the gifts. The bigger gifts were the things father and son learned and the bond they created in the process.

As we're having OUR house built, it occurred to me that the process of planning, designing, building and completing a house is very much like constructing a successful life.

I talk about how they are similar in a brief movie clip here.

I'll write in more detail about this metaphor later, but you'll get a good overview (as well as a partial peek at our new house) when you look at the 5-minute video.
