Perpetual Learning
I once visited a friend who had just celebrated her 80th birthday. Jessie talked with much enthusiasm about a quilt she had recently finished making for her great-grandson. She wanted the center square to be special and asked him what picture he would like for that square. The little boy replied, "I want a turtle."

Jessie had never made a turtle. "How about a dog?" she suggested. "Or a house? I can't make a turtle."

"Well, Gramma," he said. "I think you're old enough to learn." And she did! The finished quilt had a turtle right in the middle! Jessie was especially proud of that quilt because she learned to do something new. And she discovered that he was right—she was old enough to learn!

Smile . . . You’re on Candid Camera
A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed zone, it not only measured his speed using radar, it also photographed his car.

He later received in the mail a ticket for $40 and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $40.

Several days later, he received another letter from the police dept. that contained a picture of handcuffs.

He paid the $40.

The Class of 2004
Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to try to give the Faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's incoming freshman.

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1982.
They were 11 when the Soviet Union broke apart and do not remember the Cold War.
They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.
Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.
Most have never seen a TV set with only 13 channels, nor have they seen a black and white TV.
Roller skating has always meant inline for them.

 Points to Ponder

Where do forest rangers go to "get away from it all?"
Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?
If a mute swears, does his mother wash his hands with soap?
Can vegetarians eat animal crackers?
If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?
Whose cruel idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have a "S" in it?

Quote of the Day

To wonder at beauty,
Stand guard over truth,
Look up to the noble,
Decide for the good,

This surely will lead me
To purpose in living,
To right in my actions,
To peace in my feeling,
To clarity in my thinking,

And to teach me to trust
In love and compassion
For all that there is
In the wide, wide world,
And in the depths of my soul.

Rudolph Steiner
