A Boring Cruise? Are You Kidding? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Angier
Grand PrincessToward the end of our recent cruise, I was waiting for an elevator and commented to a guy next to me that the elevators were slow. He agreed and went on to say that the whole cruise was really boring. He said there were not enough activities.

WOW! That wasn't MY experience—or that of the vast majority of the 3,200 other passengers on the Crown Princess.

We were in a different port every day—for the entire day—except for one at sea. The entertainment on board was diverse, extensive and professional. There were five freshwater pools, at least 8 hot tubs, a 50x30-foot movie screen over one of the pools, several nightclubs, organized activities and great dining.

It wasn't a perfect cruise. There were a few things I mentioned on the comment card at the end of our voyage. But I couldn't imagine anyone saying it was a boring cruise.
It goes to show that you find what you're looking for.

The four other couples we were traveling with met each night for dinner with big smiles. We shared our individual experiences of the day and delighted in hearing how diverse our days had been.

The food was very good and the service—especially in the dining room—was world class—the best I've experienced.

On the first night, I asked if Crème Brûlée was going to be on the dessert menu. The head waiter said that it was not. But when I told him it’s Dawn's favorite dessert, he said he would make sure we had ome every night. And from Sunday to Friday, there were at least four—and sometimes six—Crème Brûlées served to our table of ten. They were made especially for us. Talk about going the extra
mile.

I saw other tables served very professionally. But our table—with all the smiling, friendly faces--seemed to have the favor of the wait staff. We acknowledged them, called them by name and gave them small gifts. It was clear that they genuinely liked us.

We saw many others on this beautiful new ship that may have been having a good time, but you couldn't tell from their faces.

It's yet another example of the many benefits of having a great attitude and exhibiting kindness and good manners.

We're back home now after a wonderful vacation with many fond memories and interesting experiences. It was a great change of pace. It was fun and it was relaxing. It was exactly what we needed.

It's also what we expected. And even if it hadn't been as great as we expected, we would have made the best of it.

What we focus on expands. We find what we are looking for. It's what we do.
