Memorial Day: How to Thank Our Fallen Heroes
As we pay tribute this day to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, I’d like to suggest doing something a little more.

In addition to being grateful and commemorating what they have given—which is certainly a good thing—let’s help to make the price they paid even more worthwhile.

Let’s pay it forward.

Let’s make the very most of the freedoms we enjoy.

Be a great American—or at least a good one.

Stand up for our country.

At the very least become well informed and vote—or maybe even run for office.

Support candidates with American values and those who are statesmen rather than merely politicians.

Practice fiscal responsibility for yourself and work to elect those who will do the same for our country. And if they don’t, vote them out.

Do whatever you can to eliminate corruption in government and work to get rid of anyone who isn’t honest and straightforward.

Our country and the freedoms and the values this country stand for deserve the best. It deserves YOUR best.

William Jennings Bryan said, “Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”

We have not all been required or had the privilege to fight for our country. But every American can and should do something to preserve and defend what so many have died for.

Our nation, like every nation, faces countless problems—big problems. But they can be solved.

You may be thinking there is little you can do, but there is always something.

So while you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, think about what contribution you can offer to make this country even better than it is.

That’s the best way I can think of to thank our fallen heroes.

Aren’t You Tired of the Gimmicks, Games and Grift?
I’m on a lot of mailing lists--probably even more than you.

I consider it part of my job to stay abreast of what’s going on and to sift and filter the information I think is relevant and reliable for our subscribers.

It’s not easy.

Like you, I see way too much hype and far too many gimmicks that it’s easy to become jaded and cynical.

There’s nothing wrong with a little gimmick to get attention or to make something stand out. A little showmanship is fine. But all too often the gimmickry is all that’s being sold.

And in some cases, the promises are outright lies.

So here are a few simple tips for how you can avoid being at the other end of the delete key or having people unsubscribe from your list altogether.

I’m grateful to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. I’m an American and proud of it. I value greatly the freedom so many have paid for with their blood and even their lives.

And freedom is my number-one core value.

Most, but not all, are willing to fight and even die for the freedoms we hold so dearly.

But what about our own personal freedom? In the free world, people have basic freedoms, but only a very small percentage are financially free. Instead we are enslaved to debt, a job or even a business.
