What Helps You Feel Organized?

Defeat the Enemy of ClutterIn our surveys over the last 19 years, lack of organization, disorder and clutter have come up many times as a major challenge to getting more of the right things done.

The distraction of all the “stuff” in our life—especially when it’s within sight as clutter—keep us from being more focused. And it seems that money and wealth tend to avoid drama, confusion and chaos, but is attracted to a well-ordered existence.

So what helps you feel more organized? What do you do that causes you to feel more in control of your life?

I’d like to know because I’m putting the finishing touches on a unique system for designing, creating, living and tracking your best life. It’s like a dashboard for controlling and monitoring your life and work.

And as we fine tune this system, I want to make sure I don’t leave anything out. So I would like to ask what are the things that have worked for you? What strategies, tactics, tools or tips do you have to defeat the enemy of clutter?

The One Thing . . . and a favor

I just finished reading The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. It’s an excellent read and a great reminder of the importance of focusing on one thing at a time.

The One ThingThe subject of the book is a take-off on something Curly (played by Jack Palance)  said in the movie City Slickers. To win in life, you just have to know the “one thing”. And like all profound things, it’s easier said than done.

You first have to determine what the one thing is and then focus almost exclusively on that. And Keller and Papasan quite effectively devote the book to the why and the how of doing so.

So I have a favor to ask. I’m putting the finishing touches on a complete system for designing, creating, living and tracking your best life. It’s quite unique and I’m very excited about it. I think you will be, too.

And as we fine tune this system, I want to make sure I don’t leave anything out. So I would like to ask you, what ONE thing would you want to do, change or have to take your life from good to great?

Best Life Tip: Soft Heart, Thick Skin

SoftHeartIt could be said that World War I, which began a hundred years ago this month, started because some people in power got overly offended. That might be a slight exaggeration, but it did play a major role.

We’ve all become offended when it wasn’t justified. We’ve cared too much about being right and being properly respected and not enough about being the bigger person.

We need to develop a thick skin and maintain a soft heart. We need to be able to let people in, but not let them get under our skin.

We need the thick skin not to be caustic but rather to be compassionate. Because we can’t be compassionate when we’re irritated and offended.

Someone once told me that when we take offense, we GIVE offense. It took awhile for that to sink in, but I think there’s truth in that.

We have a choice to be right or to be happy. And it’s pretty darn rare that we can be both. Much of the time, we just have to let it go.

So don’t sweat the small stuff—and remember, it’s ALL small stuff.
